Abscesses usually are diagnosed clinically and can be treated with antibiotics or non-pharmacologic management, such as drainage and compresses. Providers at Baby & Child Associates will do non-emergent abscess drainage and will follow up on any type of injury or medical issue that might cause an abscess. Non-emergent abscesses are mostly those that are just under the skin. If your child has an abscess that is deeper in the body this will need to be addressed at the hospital.
